ONE OF THE MOST COMMON CAUSES OF BACK PAIN IS OSTEOCONDRITIS OF THE SPINE

This is a well-known medical term meaning a degenerative (destructive) process in the spine.
Osteochondrosis is a microtraumatization of cartilage. The cartilage wears out and sags, respectively, the nerve structures are compressed, which leads to pain syndromes.

WHAT HAPPENS IN OSTEOCHONDROSIS?

It is generally accepted that there are FOUR STAGES OF OSTEOCHONDROSIS.

Each of them has its own degree of damage and clinical manifestations.

First. At this stage, the main symptom is instability. This is a non-physiological movement of the spine. Increased mobility between the vertebrae, which can destroy the annulus fibrosus of the cartilage and cause the second stage - protrusion.

Second. The appearance of cracks in the annulus fibrosus. The liquid nucleus pulposus penetrates through them, but does not leave the limits of the intervertebral disc. During this period, localized continuous or shooting pains appear at the site of the lesion. A strong muscle spasm is possible in the problem area.

Third. The fibrous ring is destroyed, an intervertebral hernia is formed. This leads to injury to the nerve root and causes acute pain in the limbs, with impaired motor activity. The vertebrae cannot be correctly fixed with each other, the distance between them decreases.

Fourth. To compensate for the instability that led to the injury to the cartilage, the body tries to isolate these movements by overgrowth of bone tissue. This can lead to limited movement and chronic aching pain.

How is OC diagnosed and treated?

If you have determined that such changes are in your body, you need to conduct a digital X-ray, MRI or CT scan.
This diagnosis allows our specialists to find out the stage of the course of the disease and draw up an effective therapy regimen.

Most patients think about:
How to start treatment?
And if the disease is already beginning to progress?

In this case, for general purposes, such as proper nutrition and home gymnastics, it is necessary to give exercises from the complex of physiotherapy exercises, which have been developed by our physiotherapists. Such exercises focus on strengthening the muscles of the spinal column. They help to compensate for the stress on the intervertebral disc and reduce the risk of rupture of the annulus fibrosus.

Also, in order to achieve the most positive results, and most importantly, to slow down the progression of the disease, complex treatment is carried out, which includes:

Drug treatment Aimed at eliminating pain syndrome, inflammation during an exacerbation.
Massage Allows you to relax muscles, improve blood circulation in the affected area, reduce the load on the vertebrae.
Manual therapy ("treatment with hands") This method is aimed at eliminating functional blocks that restrict movement in the spine.

Reflexology They act on biologically active points, and lead to pain relief and muscle relaxation, stress relief, normalization of motor and emotional reactions in the body. Our specialists will do everything to help you get rid of pain and restore your ability to work. Remember, unfortunately, there is no universal pill for back pain. Osteochondrosis can be "slowed down" by approaching the problem comprehensively and following the recommendations of the experts of the Marusich Center.
