From year to year, repeating and each time in a new way exciting statistics remains unchanged. People with pathologies of cardiovascular diseases are on a pedestal, among all other diseases. And no tendency towards stabilization of the incidence rate has yet been observed ... With this publication, we want to convey what is important and necessary to do so as not to end up on the table of the cardiac surgeon.

An experienced cardiologist Natalya Ivanovna Davidyuk answers questions.

Who is a cardiologist and what does he do?

The first thing to separate is the concept of "cardiac surgeon" and "cardiologist". A cardiac surgeon is considered to be a doctor who eliminates various pathologies of the heart by performing an operation. And a doctor - a cardiologist establishes a diagnosis, determines the tactics of treatment and is engaged in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases.

In what situations do you need to see a cardiologist?

The heart is one of the most important organs in our body. It is on his work that the stability and quality of functioning of all other systems depends.

There are a number of signs that are dangerous to ignore in the cardiovascular system. Seek medical attention immediately if any of the following symptoms clearly appear:

constricting, pressing pain and heaviness in the chest (constant or intermittent - with physical exertion), even if it disturbed primarily;
lack of air and shortness of breath during natural exertion;
irregular heartbeat (feeling of interruptions, palpitations, fading, rare or rapid heart rate)
increased or decreased heart rate;
high blood pressure (above 140/90);
swelling of the lower extremities;
frequent dizziness, fainting.
I also want to add that in some cases, a headache should also alert. It acquires special meaning when localized in the occipital region in combination with nausea. These signs can accompany the development of a hypertensive crisis (a strong increase in pressure), which is a threat to life.

What diseases does a cardiologist treat?

The most common diseases of the heart and blood vessels, diagnosed and treated by a cardiologist, are:

arterial hypertension is a disease accompanied by an increase in blood pressure of more than 140/90 mm;
arrhythmia and its varieties;
ischemic heart disease - a chronic disorder in the supply of blood to the myocardium, resulting in pathology of the arteries;
angina pectoris - pain resulting from a lack of blood flow to the myocardium ;;
heart disease - defects in the septa and valves of the organ;
chronic heart failure.

Thus, what the cardiologist treats is now clear. However, before starting therapy for any of the above diseases, I must conduct a qualified diagnosis and make an accurate diagnosis.

How is the first appointment with the doctor going?

This is the cardiologist's acquaintance with your medical history. It is important to remember and talk about the symptoms that bother you and the period when they appear. Most heart ailments are genetically determined, so if your family members have heart and vascular diseases, a specialist should find out about it. Talk about other chronic diseases as well, which may be related to your current condition.

During the consultation, a complete examination of the patient is carried out. The doctor will take the patient's history, conduct an initial diagnosis, check the pulse, measure blood pressure, establish a preliminary diagnosis, and, if necessary, prescribe additional studies, such as:

ECG (electrocardiography);
Ultrasound of the heart, blood vessels;
Holter monitoring (continuous recording of an electrocardiogram for a day or more);
veloergometry (treadmill test or exercise ecg)
coronary angiography (examination of blood vessels for the presence of atherosclerotic plaques)

How is the rehabilitation of patients with heart disease going?

One of the most important areas of work with patients is their rehabilitation after suffering heart diseases, including myocardial infarction.

It should be understood that surgical treatment of the heart (stenting, bypass grafting, etc.) is only one of the stages, since these patients require lifelong support and supervision of a cardiologist.

Thanks to high-quality rehabilitation, a patient with a cardiovascular disease gets a chance to return to normal life. Physical exercise helps to restore oxygen circulation in the heart muscle, increase blood volume and movement, increase tissue metabolism, tissue regeneration, normalize the psycho-emotional background (sleep, mood, etc.).

The attending physician develops a rehabilitation program for patients with cardiovascular disease; keeps under control of their condition; gives detailed recommendations regarding nutrition, sleep and rest, physical activity.

Tasks of medical physical culture (exercise therapy):

In the acute period of the disease (for example, acute myocardial infarction), therapeutic exercises are performed lying down, then sitting. Little by little, the motor regime expands me (moving around the house, walking up the stairs, going to the park).

During the period of recovery, exercise therapy is the most effective means of restorative treatment. All types of activity (walking, swimming) should be dosed and accurately distributed throughout the day.

The purpose of the maintenance period is to consolidate the achieved results and restore the patient's working capacity.

Of course, you need to understand that rehabilitation measures, including exercise therapy, for cardiovascular diseases are not the only method of treatment. We connect basic and auxiliary means, such as: drug therapy, massage, physiotherapy, diet, healthy lifestyle, etc.
