It's almost impossible to find a person who hasn't experienced a headache at least once. It's one of the most common disorders of the nervous system. Chronic headaches affect daily functioning, interpersonal relationships, and can become the cause of other illnesses.
Headache symptoms can occur on either one or both sides of the head - a sensation of tightness in the temples, crown, and frontal areas. The intensity of the pain can range from mild to excruciating.
Numerous causes of headaches include:
- Sleep disturbances;
- Infectious diseases;
- Past head injuries or the presence of tumors;
- Fluctuations in arterial pressure;
- Constant stress;
- Hormonal imbalances;
- Overheating or chilling of the body;
- Sensitivity to weather changes;
- Spinal issues (scoliosis, kyphosis) affecting brain blood supply;
- Excessive physical exertion;
- Excessive alcohol or tobacco consumption.
Among the most common types of headaches are:
- Migraine, characterized by recurring pain in the temples, forehead, and eye area;
- Primary pain, triggered by physical, psychological, or environmental factors, usually lasting from 2 hours to 2 days;
- Cluster pain, involving intense pain attacks on one side of the head that dissipate quickly;
- Medication-induced headache resulting from excessive use of drugs.
If the pain becomes frequent and changes its manifestation, it's important to seek medical attention. Experienced neurologist Dr. Valeriy I. Oseledchik from the Marusich Medical Center will determine the pain's location, duration, and frequency to make a diagnosis and prescribe treatment.
